On this classic India tour you will discover the grandeurs of the capital City Delhi, the holy spirit of Sanatan Dharma, the great energy of Yoga and various Ahrams in Haridwar and Rishikesh.  The tour begins in India’s glorious capital, Delhi. Explore both the vibrant Old  Delhi and the sophisticated New Delhi.<\/p>

Haridwar is the spiritual capital city of India for Hindus and is situated at an altitude of 294 meters. The name Haridwar means “the Dwar of Hari” or “the Door of Lord Vishnu”. Vishnu’s footprint on the banks of the holy river in Haridwar is revered by pilgrims. The city is situated at the base of the Shiwalik hills and is located on the western banks of the River Ganga. The Ganga emerges from its last gorge here and begins a 2,000-kilometre journey through the plains of UP, Bihar and West Bengal before finally reaching the Bay of Bengal. The Ganges River waters the large areas of land with canals and wells. Haridwar is an ancient city dating back to 1400 AD, mentioned by the Chinese traveller Hiuen Tsang. Timur, during his bloody campaign in North India, invaded Haridwar in 1399 because of its riches. The city is also known for its association with various episodes of the Mahabharata.<\/p>

Rishikesh is named after the place of the sages. It is located approximately 25 km from Haridwar and is near the Ganga River as it flows swiftly through the last hills of the Himalayas. Currently, there are multiple ashrams in Rishikesh, including Maharishi Yogi’s ashram which drew the attention of the Beatles in the early 60s with its unique philosophies. Rishikesh is a gateway to the Garhwal hills and the four religious shrines of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. In addition, Rishikesh is known for the Sikh shrine at Hemkund Sahib and attracts tourists with its main attractions, the Lakshman Temple and the Lakshman Jhula. The Lakshman Jhula, a suspension bridge, allows tourists to cross the River Ganga. Other popular tourist attractions in Rishikesh include the Bharat Temple, Sri Venkateshwara Temple and Muni-ki-Reti.<\/p>
