Is tipping customary in India?
Yes, tipping is common in India. While service charges may be included in some restaurant bills, tipping around 10-15% of the bill is generally appreciated. For porters, $1-2 is sufficient, while for private drivers, $4-5 per person per day is customary. Local guides or tour escorts usually receive $5-10 per person per day. These are guidelines; adjust based on your satisfaction with the service. Ultimately, tipping reflects your appreciation for the service provided during your trip.
Group Tipping Option:
To simplify tipping logistics, we offer a group tip box for your convenience. This eliminates the need to worry about daily tip amounts or obtaining small denominations of local currency. If traveling in a group or on an organized tour, your tour guide will introduce the concept of a group tip fund on the first day. Each member contributes the same amount at the beginning of the trip, which the tour leader utilizes to tip service providers throughout the journey. Detailed records are maintained for transparency, and any surplus funds are used for a group celebration at the tour’s conclusion. Enjoy your trip with peace of mind, knowing tipping arrangements are taken care of.
