Lumbini

Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, is a Buddhist pilgrimage site in the south-western region of Nepal. The place is said to be the exact spot where Maya Devi gave birth to a boy named Siddhartha Gautam, who later turned out to be Lord Gautam Buddha. It was in Lumbini that Lord Buddha attained the path to enlightenment by meditating under a tree that still stands in Lumbini. The Nepal Lumbini tour is more of a religious expedition than an adventure. Gautam Buddha preached a message of peace and brotherhood. And more than 2000 years after his death, people come here to find peace and some of the enlightenment that the great soul of Mahatma Buddha once achieved. There are a number of temples in Lumbini that have been built by different countries and are still under construction. The Bodhi tree, under which Lord Buddha meditated, is still revered by visitors. Passers-by also worship the Pusakarini or Holy Pond where Lord Buddha took his first bath. The pilgrimage is a day-long affair, especially in the months of April and May when people gather from all over to celebrate Lord Buddha’s birthday in a grand manner. The festivities are at their height during this period, making it a perfect time for a day trip to Lumbini.
