In the far east of Bhutan, Trashigang is situated on the banks of the Dangmechhu river. It is the biggest district in the country. Trashigang used to be an important spot on the route to Tibet for trading. Now it is a meeting point for the East-West highway and a road that goes to Samdrup Jonkhar, which then leads to the Indian state of Assam. This town is also a marketplace for the semi-nomadic people from Merak and Sakten. Their costumes are distinct in Bhutan.
