The word Ayurveda comes from combining two literal words. The word ‘ayur’ means ‘containing life’ & the word ‘Veda’ means ‘knowing’. Ayurveda therefore means ‘the knowledge of life‘. It originated in India more than 5,000 years ago. It is believed to be the oldest healing science in existence, from which all other systems have evolved. It is an ancient healing system. It has three main focuses:
- Cure of disease
- Prevention of disease
- Prolonging or reversing ageing
Ayurveda offers divine prevention from disease and eternal happiness in life.
Experience an authentic Ayurveda spa treatment in India
A traditional Ayurvedic treatment in India, where qualified practitioners of this ancient art of healing restore harmony to body, mind and spirit, set against the backdrop of paradise beaches and tropical rainforests. In keeping with its long tradition, Ayurvedic medicine has a wealth of experience. Through continuous improvement and development, this traditional art of healing has always been in tune with modern developments. In India Ayurvedic medicine is very popular and is often used as part of wellness programmes.
Enrich yourself through the continued knowledge and expertise of five thousand years
The roots of this comprehensive healing practice stem from southwest India, dating back five millennia. Ayurveda was introduced in the Vedas, which are holy texts outlining medical therapies that meld physical, psychological and spiritual elements. According to oral tradition, Brahma, the creator of the universe, invented Ayurveda and brought its knowledge to earth through divine intervention.
The focus is on the human being as a complete individual. They are divided into three types, called doshas. Each describes a metabolic, motion and structural principle. These are present in every human being, but in different forms and characteristics.
The doshas are made up of thee elements: Air (Vatta), Fire (Pitta) and and Water (Kapha). The aim of traditional Ayurveda is to harmonise the doshas and achieve balance in the body, mind and spirit – resulting in a sense of equilibrium and good health for the individual after treatment.
A healthy way to slow down from the hectic pace of everyday life
The hustle and bustle of everyday life in the Western hemisphere can be stressful. It can also be detrimental to your health. That’s why it can be both relaxing and invigorating to take a real break from constant accessibility, busy schedules and multimedia overload.
Kerala in south-west India is not only known for its beautiful landscapes and fascinating culture. It is also known as the ‘cradle of Ayurveda’. It’s where this ancient art of healing originated and is practised to perfection in many specialised centres.
Ayurveda means ‘knowledge of life’, and it’s precisely this ancient knowledge that can help to re-balance and energise your life. The Ayurveda resorts in Kerala offer a holistic therapy in the midst of magical landscapes … including a pure atmosphere of well-being. In addition to the therapeutic measures, a personalised diet plan is drawn up after a detailed preliminary consultation with the attending doctors and the subsequent diagnosis and evaluation of the doshas.
However, it is only in its homeland that true, authentic Ayurveda can be found under the supervision of specially trained doctors. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city and the stress of everyday life, experience this ancient art of healing where it once originated, in the midst of picturesque landscapes, in a stylish ambience, in complete harmony with nature – this is Ayurveda in India. A stay that will continue to have a positive effect on you for a long time to come, even when you return home.
Inner balance through diverse sources of energy
Diet plays an important role in Ayurvedic medicine. In Ayurveda, diet plays a major role in rebalancing the doshas – easily digestible, carefully cooked food with plenty of fruit and vegetables and no meat in the ‘rasas’, the typical tastes of sweet, sour, salty, spicy, bitter and sour. And one of the positive side effects of an Ayurvedic cure is that you get rid of those annoying, unhealthy extra pounds.
The food is carefully prepared by trained Ayurvedic chefs. They pay particular attention to the quality and freshness of the ingredients. And the palate is not neglected either. The culinary variety of Ayurvedic food offers a wealth of delicious delicacies. The right diet also accelerates the body’s cleansing and self-cleansing process, called Panchakarma, which is supported by soothing massages and forehead oils.
Yoga and meditation are other important components of an Ayurvedic cure. Breathing in a focused way has a calming effect on the whole body. Yoga and Ayurveda are an ideal combination to combat inner restlessness and stress. They also help to rebalance the doshas.
